There is nothing more terrifying to me in a school setting than essay exams. In general, writing assignments always give me anxiety, so when a time limit is placed on one, with the obsessive-compulsive need to reword myself and question myself coupled with the difficulty I already have on expressing my thoughts on paper, it is horrifying in my overdramatic, emotional, anxiety-ridden mind!
In addition, my grades are especially important at this time in my college classes, and in the past, because I test well on multiple-choice exams, I have relied on test scores to keep my overall grade high.
Being told that our presentations would help us prepare and knowing there would be an essay exam very early in the unit was slightly helpful for the anxiety that instinctively takes over. I thought it would just prolong the anxiety and make it worse, but I think it gave me more time to train my mind not to panic. However, exam reflection essay, the most helpful preparation was the tips posted in Blackboard. Reading them helped give me ideas on how to prepare, how to structure, and even a little of what information to include.
